Hi, my name is Jolene Underwood. I'm a trauma-informed therapist offering Telehealth services to adult residents throughout the state of Texas. I offer therapeutic support & collaborative work with clients to help them experience deep healing for the root causes of ongoing pain, patterns, or blocks to personal growth.
All my services are offered virtually, including EMDR and 2-3 day intensives. Additionally, I offer a limited number of in-person EMDR intensives per year.
Many of the clients I work with have suffered hurt or harm in church related environments, communities, and/or relationships. This includes individuals who've experienced spiritual and emotional abuse. In addition, I work with individuals going through, or coming out of, seasons of overwhelm and stress, as well as anxiety, depression, trauma, grief, and patterns of emotional reactivity.
As a therapist, I employ a combination of therapeutic modalities to help clients regulate emotions, calm their nervous system, increase internal capacity to show up well in life situations & relationships, strengthen & develop the core of who they are as God's unique design, and heal underlying roots of pain, problematic patterns, and blocks to personal growth. I use a combination of modalities, approaches, and emotionally-focused models to work with clients.
In 2012, our family moved to care for foster with up to 12 children in our home on a ranch where we lived for 14 months. This experience was life altering in many ways, and required healing from secondary trauma. When we returned home, I asked God for help to pursue whatever healing I needed, and I knew it meant more than the effects from the ranch. This healing journey included a lot of personal work, including EMDR treatment.
In 2020, just prior to the COVID lockdowns, I began attending the Townsend Institute at Concordia University in Irvine, CA to get my MA in counseling. Today, I am an LPC-Associate in the state of Texas for telehealth therapy. My specialized training includes EMDR, Attachment-Focused EMDR, DBT, Complex Trauma treatment, Life Coaching, and more.
I am continually learning about modalities and therapeutic methods designed to help the brain and body heal, especially from the effects of trauma, abuse, and church harm.
All of us have core longings to be seen, known, and loved. Various experiences in life can alter our ability to operate in this world from a place of feeling secure. Therapy provides a path to rewrite the damaging effects of life's challenges so you can show up in this world in a way that is honoring to yourself and to others.
Through the therapeutic relationship, many clients feel encouraged and strengthened to explore new ways of living.
Therapy could be the catalyst to helping you move forward in life.
No two therapists are alike, even when they use the same therapeutic modalities. You as a client have the right to explore what kind of therapy is available to you so you can find a fit that's most helpful for your needs.
My approach to working with clients includes getting to know you and your story so we can work together to identify a path for healing. We'll explore your goals for therapy and discuss options. I incorporate therapy models that help you increase connection to your thoughts, emotions, and physiology while also working towards an increased capacity for facing life's challenges.
Below are some of the reasons you may want to work with me as your therapist. These may not all apply to you and your situation, and that's OK. Consider what is important to you & note any questions you may have so you can ask me during an initial consultation and discovery call. To book this call, go to Book A Session.
